Desperate for a little peace this week, I ended our Unplugged challenge after nearly two weeks of absolutely no TV for the girls.
I did so knowing full well that I wouldn't feel an ounce of guilt about it because I popped in That Baby DVD, a sweet video full of music and images of kids playing.
We've been listening to the songs on the CD in the car for a month now. I love it and so do the girls. In fact, they sang their first song -- real words and all -- to this CD (Three Little Birds).
Best part for me is that I could listen to these songs all day, which is basically my reason for picking the music we listen to around here. I have been downloading and making CDs to enjoy throughout the day because it makes me a happier person to have something in the background that makes me smile. Plus, I do think quality music helps keep us all more peaceful and happy. On the contrary, we have a toddler songs CD that does just the opposite.
We've been listening to Elizabeth Mitchell a lot and if you dig her then you will love this, too.
The reason I feel no guilt is because these video images move very slowly, which can be the real problem with most shows, including Sesame Street.
I also love the history of the company and truly believe they have many of the same ideas about what television viewing should be for a child. A little learning, a lot of entertainment but nothing corny or terrifying for me as a mother.
Check out the video on their site and listen to a few songs if you can and decide for yourself. But, if you are in the market for some good children's music, you really should not pass this up.
